Mayoral Minute - Infrastructure Delays are Failing Our Community
"Councillors, The Minns Government’s recent announcement of $190 million to widen Windsor Road, combined with the Albanese Government’s earlier pledge of $220 million, is a welcome relief.
We thank the Federal and NSW Governments for giving this project clarity. It’s a good start but given they decide our population growth – it is just a start, and one that needs to be followed up with further funds and works. We are coming from a long way behind – it’s time to support our growth.
To truly equip this road to cope with the burgeoning population – we say it is still not enough.
These commitments fall well short of what is needed to properly address congestion on North West Sydney’s most critical transport corridor. Old Windsor Road runs right through the middle of the North West Growth Area and the two councils with the biggest housing targets in this state.
The Minns Government expects an additional 45,000 homes will be built within The Hills and Blacktown LGAs by 2029. What our community needs now is for the rubber to hit the road, with urgent delivery of meaningful upgrades. Between us – we have a combined population that rivals Canberra so it’s time for action."
