About the Project

Fred Caterson Reserve is the Shire’s largest and only regional-level active recreation park. Fields 1, 2 and 3 form the central open space hub of the reserve, which also features walking trails, amenities buildings, spectator stands, an aging playground, and a car park. Through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (WSIG) Program, formerly ‘WestInvest’, Council has secured funding to deliver embellishment works at Fields 1, 2 and 3. The upgrades aim to modernise facilities, improve accessibility, enhance site functionality, and elevate the overall user experience.

As part of the approved works, the project will deliver:

  • Minor refurbishment of the existing amenities building opposite Fields 2 and 3
  • New children's playground
  • Enhancements to pedestrian access and site-wide accessibility
  • Car park upgrades to improve layout and function
  • Installation of a perimeter drainage system for Fields 2 and 3
  • A new shade structure and spectator seating
  • A formalised forecourt with seating and gathering spaces.

These upgrades are informed by the adopted Fred Caterson Reserve Master Plan and Council’s Recreation Strategy. They are designed to meet the current needs of the community and sporting groups. The upgrades also plan for the future, with over 15,000 new residents expected to move into the nearby Showground Station Precinct in the coming years.
