Project Overview
The Hills Shire Council is proposing drainage improvements within Samantha Riley Drive Reserve to better manage stormwater from surrounding neighbourhoods. The proposal includes the establishment of a regional drainage reserve incorporating two separate drainage basins, each designed to manage runoff from different parts of the area.
During rainfall, stormwater will be collected within the basins, filtered to remove litter and pollutants, and then released gradually into nearby creeks. This helps manage stormwater more safely while also protecting the local environment.
Why Are the Works Needed?
In recent years, increased development and more frequent heavy rainfall have placed additional pressure on the local drainage network. During storm events, large volumes of water can flow quickly downstream, contributing to localised flooding. Temporary storage basins are designed to slow stormwater during these events and control how quickly it is released. This approach helps manage frequent storm flows more effectively and reduces downstream flooding impacts.
