What is the proposal?
The Hills Shire Council has received a request to name a future road in Box Hill as 'St Marina Road'.
The request has been made by Clement and Reid on behalf of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.
The proposal is in relation to development approvals for a Greek Orthodox Church and associated subdivision on land at the intersection of the future roads 'Box Road' and 'Tidal Way'. The future road of 'Tidal Way' is proposed to be renamed 'St Marina Road' under this road naming proposal.
The name 'St Marina Road' is proposed as the church that will be constructed will be named 'St Marina' after Saint Marina, the patron saint of the Orthodox Church.
The naming and renaming of roads are regulated under the Roads Act 1993 and the Roads Regulation 2018, further, the Geographical Names Board (GNB) also sets policies and processes for all road naming. Names that are duplicated or sound similar to names in the locality are not able to be used. The proposed name 'St Marina Road' is eligible for approval by the Geographical Names Board (GNB).
